Special Presentation October 25th: Mark Stukel PhD Defense
While not a monthly meeting, this is a special announcement that CES's very own Mark Stukel will be giving a public presentation as part of his PhD defense on Friday, October 25th, at 4pm. Mark's talk will be an updated and expanded version of the talk he presented at the April 2024 CES meeting, but updated with new findings. The presentation will be held at UConn in BPB 131, but there is also a live stream option through Kaltura at the following link http://www.kaltura.com/tiny/po77j. A link to the title slide can be found at the end of this announcement.
The title of Mark's presentation is: "Phylogenomics and Evolution of Cicadidae: Insights from New Zealand and Across the Globe"
Talk abstract: The public presentation summarizes Mark's research which uses phylogenomic data to understand the evolutionary relationships and ancient and more recent hybridization events of the cicadas of New Zealand, as well as deep-level relationships, diversification patterns, Bayesian fossilized-birth-death dating, and biogeography of cicadas from around the world.
